Participants are required to compete in two events — an academic and a car competition. In the academic competition, the Academy’s team emerged from its round robin earning a first place seed in the double elimination tournament, and then finished in the sweet sixteen. This ranks the team amongst the top 1% of all science bowl teams in the 2013 regional competitions.
For the car competition, the Academy team built an electric car in the weeks prior to departing for D.C. In the competition, the car traveled a 20-meter track in a time of 6.17 seconds, earning a third place trophy and $250 for Academy’s science department.
Congratulations to all the team members and to science faculty member/team sponsor Barbara Gilbert.
